Our First Tourney Tuesday

What is Tourney Tuesday?

First, if you are wondering what Tourney Tuesday is, Tourney Tuesday is a weekly mini tournament capped at 10 players. They play in a doubles round robin style tournament rotating teammates and counting score differential. Our first Tourney Tuesday was a great success! We had 9 competitors show up to play and everyone enjoyed it! We can facilitate a tournament anywhere from 5 plays up to 10 players. The more the merrier though as the system is easier to work when we have two full courts of players.

Competition

With 9 players competing we were able to still take two courts for play which speeds the competition up dramatically and allows for limited waiting time. Each game is first to 7 points with standard scoring rules. We wanted to cap the games to 7 in order to keep everyone in tip top shape as you are guaranteed at least 8 games when all 10 competitors are present. The tournament started off great and everyone seemed to be enjoying the tournament style. We had competitors of all ages and skill levels yet we were still able to facilitate a fun and enjoyable play environment. Every competitor got to play at least 5 games with having 9 total players.

The best story from the night was of Hunter. Hunter had never played pickleball before but he came to watch his mom participate. Before the tournament started he decided to give it a go and bit the ball around for a bit. He instantly loved it and asked if he would be able to participate in the tournament. He was of course able to join and ended up having a blast. Hunter said that it was a bit of an adjustment at first coming from tennis but as he got used to the bounce of the ball it became a lot of fun to play!

By the end of the round robin there was a clear point leader, Jarad at 32 positive point differential. The next closest was Kyle at 14 points and then lastly Cheryl with 5 points.

Grand Finals

The two competitors with the highest points move on to the grand finals. They also get to pick their partner who will join them in the grand finals match. Jarad received first pick as he had the most points and selected Michelle. Kyle in second place selected Cheryl. The grand final match was a standard game to 11 points win by 2. It was a tough competition but Jarad and Michelle secured the victory 11-6. Jarad took first place winning a nice cash prize for himself! Kyle finished second and Cheryll was third each receiving discounts for future play!
